Due to the surge COVID-19 cases in our county, we are going to do our part to help mitigate the virus. We will have virtual services with essential staff only.
Thursday, November 12, 2020
Last week, Bishop Laurie Haller released a revised 3-2-1 Re-Entry Plan and moved the conference back to red light. Administrative Council met on Tuesday, November 10th and voted to move services to VIRTUAL ONLY until further notice.

Welcome Pastor Allen “Al” Coffin!
We would like to welcome Reverend Allen “Al” Coffin as the new pastor at Fairfield First United Methodist Church! Rev. Al comes to us from Walcott Calvary United Methodist Church in Walcott, Iowa.
Rev. Al is married to wife, Diane. They have 2 adult children. Pastor Al is an ordained Elder in the United Methodist Church and has also served United Methodist congregations in Columbus Junction and Columbus City.
Please lift up Pastor Al and Diane in your thoughts and prayers as they start their new journey with us. We look forward to getting to know you!
Help for Research Study
A member of our congregation, Sylvia Richards, is conducting a research study and has asked for our help. The purpose of the study is to explore how one’s experience of Christianity helps to develop faith and sustain faith over time.
All adults (18 years and up) in Jefferson County with a Christian background are eligible to participate in the study.
This study is limited to Jefferson County, but not limited to the United Methodist Church. All adults from any of the churches in Jefferson County are invited to participate, as well as those who don’t attend any church, as long as they have some background with the Christian tradition.
I would like to have as broad a range of participants as possible–those who attend church every Sunday as well as those who seldom or never attend (and everyone in between).
There are two phases to this study:
- An online questionnaire that takes about 10 minutes to complete. People can participate directly online, or they can call or text me at 641-451-0527 to participate by phone. The link to the online survey is: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/ChristianResearch
- Phase Two is a followup to the questionnaire and involves a personal interview with the researcher (Sylvia Richards). It could be in person or on Zoom. Completing the online questionnaire does not obligate anyone to be interviewed.
Please invite all your friends in Jefferson County to participate in the online questionnaire. It is easy and fun! Talk to your friends, post on Facebook, or send an email. Thanks so much for your help!
